Civil Engineer – Rural Infrastructure (6‑month contract)

About the role

The World Food Programme is seeking a Civil Engineer to support rural infrastructure activities in the provinces of Kasai Central and Uvira, Democratic Republic of Congo. The position is a six‑month fixed‑term assignment based in Tshikapa and Uvira, contributing to a project that aims to improve food security, strengthen community resilience and promote social cohesion for smallholder farmers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, supervise and monitor construction of rural infrastructure such as roads, irrigation systems, water points and market facilities.
• Ensure that all works comply with WFP standards, local regulations and safety requirements.
• Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders and contractors to facilitate timely implementation.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates and documentation for project monitoring and evaluation.
• Support procurement processes, including preparation of technical specifications and evaluation of bids.

Required profile

• University degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Relevant experience in designing and managing rural infrastructure projects, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
• Ability to work in remote, challenging environments and travel between duty stations.
• Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an advantage.
