Coordinator, Regional Operations

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is seeking a Coordinator, Regional Operations to lead and support its emergency response to the Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) outbreak across the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring countries. The role will ensure that response, readiness and preparedness activities are effectively coordinated, aligned with IFRC policies and delivered in partnership with National Societies and public authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate regional response operations in the DRC, overseeing implementation of the Regional Emergency Appeal.
• Manage readiness activities in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
• Support preparedness initiatives in additional countries within the East and Central Africa region.
• Facilitate collaboration between IFRC, National Societies, local authorities and other humanitarian actors.
• Monitor compliance with IFRC’s zero‑tolerance policies, child safeguarding principles and humanitarian standards.
• Prepare and present operational reports, risk assessments and strategic recommendations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in humanitarian coordination or emergency response, preferably in public health crises.
• Strong understanding of IFRC’s strategic framework, policies and humanitarian principles.
• Ability to work in complex, insecure environments and adapt to rapidly changing contexts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Fluency in English; additional language(s) relevant to the region are an asset.
