Health Officer – Community Based Surveillance (DRC)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Health Officer to strengthen community‑based surveillance (CBS) for Ebola Virus Disease in multiple locations across the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role supports rapid detection, reporting, and response to alerts, ensuring timely isolation and case management while engaging communities and health facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and oversee community‑based surveillance activities, including detection, reporting of alerts, and follow‑up of cases and contacts.
• Supervise, train, and support community‑based personnel and coordinate with health facilities and the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) team.
• Manage data collection, monitoring, and reporting on surveillance activities and Ebola vaccination efforts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Medicine or a related field.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in community‑based surveillance or public health programmes.
• Proficiency in French; knowledge of another UN language and Swahili is an asset.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of epidemiological surveillance.
• Proficiency in Community‑Based Surveillance (CBS) approaches.
• Experience with routine and mass vaccination activities.
