Human Rights Officer – Researcher

About the role

The Human Rights Officer – Researcher will support MONUSCO’s mission to monitor and document serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role involves rigorous research, data verification and collaboration with national and international partners.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and verify information on alleged perpetrators of serious human rights and humanitarian law violations.
• Review and ensure the quality and consistency of data entered into the project database.
• Assist with data entry and regularly update the database with new information.
• Analyse the ongoing human rights situation and identify information gaps.
• Provide capacity development for national staff and partners through coaching, mentoring and training.
• Perform any other related duties as required.

Required profile

• Age between 27 and 80 years.
• National of a country other than the Democratic Republic of Congo.
• Minimum three years of experience in human rights work.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Rights or a related field.
• Fluent in English and French.
• Valid driving licence.
• Ability to live and work in difficult and harsh conditions.
