Officer, Community Based Surveillance

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is seeking an Officer, Community Based Surveillance to support the response to the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role will focus on strengthening community engagement, surveillance activities and infection control to contain the outbreak and prevent cross‑border spread.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise door‑to‑door community surveillance activities in affected provinces.
• Collect, verify and report epidemiological data to national and regional health authorities.
• Support volunteers in delivering health education, countering misinformation and promoting early care‑seeking.
• Assist in safe and dignified burial practices and infection prevention measures.
• Collaborate with government partners, NGOs and IFRC regional offices to ensure a coordinated response.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in public health, community surveillance or humanitarian emergency response.
• Ability to work in insecure and resource‑limited settings.
• Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
