Officer, Readiness and Preparedness

About the role

The Officer, Readiness and Preparedness will support IFRC’s response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Working within the emergency coordination team, the officer will help mobilise national society volunteers, strengthen community surveillance, and ensure infection‑control measures are in place across affected provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate door‑to‑door awareness campaigns, counter misinformation and promote early care‑seeking.
• Support safe and dignified burial practices to interrupt transmission.
• Collaborate with governments, partners and IFRC regional offices to strengthen cross‑border preparedness.
• Assist in logistics planning, surge capacity mobilisation and resource allocation.
• Monitor and report on surveillance data, infection‑prevention activities and community engagement outcomes.

Required profile

• Experience in humanitarian emergency response, preferably in health or disease‑outbreak contexts.
• Strong understanding of community‑based surveillance, infection‑control and public health communication.
• Ability to work in insecure, resource‑limited environments and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
