Investigator – Ethics & Compliance (East Africa, West Africa & Great Lakes)

About the role

The Ethics and Compliance Unit of the International Rescue Committee is seeking an Investigator to lead inquiries into allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, corruption, and other misconduct across the East Africa, West Africa and Great Lakes regions. The role supports program integrity, donor confidence, and the safety of staff and beneficiaries by applying rigorous investigative standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute investigations of alleged fraud, corruption, safeguarding breaches, and other misconduct.
• Collect, review, and assess documentary, electronic, and testimonial evidence.
• Conduct interviews with staff, partners, and other relevant parties, recording and analyzing findings.
• Prepare draft and final investigation reports, including clear recommendations for corrective actions.
• Collaborate with senior investigators, program teams, and external partners to prioritize investigative work.
• Support the development and improvement of complaints mechanisms and investigative capacity.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience conducting investigations in complex, high‑risk environments.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports.
• Willingness to travel extensively for field missions.
• Commitment to impartiality, objectivity, and confidentiality.

Required skills

• Knowledge of international investigative standards and best practices.
• Proficiency in interview techniques and evidence handling.
• Ability to analyze documentary and electronic data.
