Senior Adviser WASH (IPC) – 6‑month Temporary Assignment

About the role

The Senior Adviser WASH (IPC) will provide strategic leadership for UNICEF’s water, sanitation, hygiene and infection prevention and control response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Reporting to the Ebola Response Senior Project Coordinator in Bunia, the role ensures that WASH/IPC interventions are evidence‑based, coordinated with national authorities and integrated across all response pillars.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning, policy dialogue and technical guidance for WASH/IPC activities across affected provinces.
• Coordinate inter‑agency efforts and align UNICEF interventions with the Ebola Incident Management structure.
• Prioritise interventions using epidemiological and operational data, linking them to case management, safe burials and risk communication.
• Mobilise resources and oversee the allocation of supplies, logistics and technical expertise.
• Provide oversight, monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of WASH/IPC measures.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in WASH and IPC within humanitarian or public health emergencies.
• Proven senior‑level leadership and coordination skills in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Strong understanding of Ebola or similar outbreak response frameworks.
• Ability to work under pressure, make evidence‑based decisions and communicate with government and partner agencies.
