Senior Environmental Consultant

About the role

WSP is seeking an experienced Environmental Assessment Practitioner to join its Environmental Planning and Advisory team as a Senior Environmental Consultant. The role involves leading and supporting environmental and social impact assessments for large infrastructure and mining projects across South Africa and the wider region.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and manage related authorisation processes.
• Lead and support local and international assessment projects for complex infrastructure and mining developments.
• Conduct environmental and social due‑diligence assignments, including technical reviews, risk assessments, regulatory reviews and gap analyses.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, subcontractors and multidisciplinary specialist teams.
• Review, integrate and quality‑assure specialist studies and technical inputs.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and public participation processes.
• Maintain client relationships, present findings and recommendations, and contribute to business development activities.

Required profile

• Strong background in EIA/ESIA preparation with excellent analytical and report‑writing abilities.
• Experience managing projects, budgets and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients and stakeholders.
• Interest in expanding into environmental and social due‑diligence, ESG advisory and international lender standards.
