Country Director – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

International Alert is seeking a Country Director to lead and expand its peacebuilding work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in Goma, you will shape the organisation’s strategic vision, strengthen fundraising, and ensure high‑quality programming across the country and the Great Lakes region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement Alert’s strategic plan for the DRC, aligning with global priorities and local dynamics.
• Lead fundraising strategy, identify and engage donors, and secure resources for existing and new initiatives.
• Oversee programme design, risk analysis, and conflict‑dynamic assessments in partnership with the Director of Programmes.
• Manage a team of four staff, providing mentorship, performance reviews and capacity‑building.
• Supervise contracts, consultancies and research activities, ensuring compliance and quality.
• Coordinate with the Rwanda office on cross‑border and regional projects.
• Ensure the country programme is adequately resourced and staffed with the right expertise.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in operational management and strategic planning.
• Deep knowledge of the DRC conflict context and peacebuilding opportunities.
• Proven fundraising track record with ability to develop and execute donor strategies.
• Fluent in English and French.
• Commitment to fairness, equity and collaborative teamwork.
