Habituation Manager – Gorilla Tourism, Kahuzi-Biega NP

About the role

The Habituation Manager will lead the great‑ape habituation programme in Kahuzi‑Biega National Park, supporting gorilla‑viewing tourism that funds park operations and benefits local communities. Based at the park headquarters in Tshivanga, the role reports to the Head of Tourism and works closely with the Head Guide, Site Manager, Program Manager and other departments.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee implementation and expansion of the gorilla habituation programme, coordinating with tourism and research teams.
• Manage a team of habituation officers and trackers, providing mentorship, capacity‑building and performance oversight.
• Develop and execute recruitment and professional training plans, prioritising opportunities for indigenous peoples and women.
• Ensure day‑to‑day operational alignment with the Head Guide to deliver safe and high‑quality gorilla viewings for tourists.
• Participate in annual park operational planning and regular work‑plan cycles for the tourism department.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing wildlife habituation or similar conservation programmes in complex environments.
• Strong leadership and team‑management abilities, with experience mentoring field staff.
• Demonstrated capacity to collaborate across multiple park departments and external partners.
• Commitment to inclusive hiring practices and community benefit sharing.
