Programme Manager – Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) & WASH

About the role

The Programme Manager will lead the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) components of Mercy Corps’ Integrated Ebola Response Driven Communities (IERDC) in Bunia, Ituri Province. Reporting to the Emergency Ebola Response Team, the role ensures safe health‑facility environments and community hygiene practices to curb Ebola transmission.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor IPC protocols and WASH interventions in health facilities and affected communities.
• Coordinate with local health authorities, partners and community leaders to integrate risk communication and surveillance activities.
• Oversee the procurement, distribution and maintenance of hygiene supplies and infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to staff and partners on IPC/WASH best practices.
• Collect, analyse and report data on IPC/WASH performance to inform programme adjustments.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., Public Health, Environmental Health, International Development) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing IPC and/or WASH programmes in humanitarian or health emergencies.
• Demonstrated experience working in the Democratic Republic of Congo or similar contexts.
• Strong understanding of Ebola transmission dynamics and community‑centered response approaches.
