Associate Construction Management Engineer

About the role

The Associate Construction Management Engineer supports the planning, implementation and monitoring of infrastructure projects for UNOPS in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role ensures that construction activities meet design specifications, quality standards, timelines and safety requirements while providing on‑site technical oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Provide inputs on work plans, drawings and specifications during design and procurement phases.
• Monitor on‑site construction to verify compliance with technical specifications, contractual obligations and UNOPS HSSE standards.
• Conduct quality inspections, verify material compliance and oversee safety and environmental measures.
• Assist in resolving technical and operational issues in coordination with contractors and project managers.
• Verify contractor progress, prepare and review Interim Payment Certificates and ensure accurate documentation for disbursement.
• Review variation orders and cost claims for technical accuracy and value for money.
• Prepare regular site progress reports and document construction milestones.
• Coordinate with end‑users, contractors, consultants and local authorities to ensure smooth implementation.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering degree (civil, construction or related field).
• Experience in construction project monitoring and contractor management.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance, safety and environmental standards.
• Ability to work on‑site in challenging environments and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
