Development Manager – Hydropower

About the role

The company, an African hydropower developer, is seeking a Development Manager to lead the delivery of small‑hydro projects across the region. Based in a major city, you will work closely with technical teams to bring projects to financial close and may oversee construction phases, contributing directly to the expansion of green power for rural mini‑grids.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with engineering, finance and legal teams to achieve financial close on hydropower projects.
• Oversee construction supervision for small‑hydro installations and refurbishments.
• Lead meetings with lenders, investors and other stakeholders.
• Manage the acquisition of local permits and ensure compliance with HSE standards.
• Travel to project sites as required and report progress to senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in hydropower development, especially small‑hydro projects.
• Background in construction supervision for renewable energy assets.
• Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) principles.
• Familiarity with local permitting processes and regulatory frameworks.
• Bilingual in French and English; knowledge of local dialects is a plus.
• Relevant university degree in engineering, energy or a related field.
