IT Systems Administrator – Database & Server Management

About the role

The IT Systems Administrator will be responsible for the end‑to‑end management of servers, database platforms and related applications. You will ensure high availability, performance and security while supporting the organization’s digital infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Administer Windows and Linux servers, as well as MS SQL, MySQL and Oracle databases.
• Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, configurations and resource‑allocation optimisation.
• Automate daily health checks and generate weekly/monthly availability, performance and capacity reports.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date inventory of all database servers, operating systems, roles, locations and IP ranges.
• Manage user access, harden systems, close vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with ISO 27001, NIST and GDPR.
• Develop, test and maintain backup and disaster‑recovery procedures to guarantee business continuity.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and act as a subject‑matter expert on infrastructure projects.
• Implement monitoring tools, proactively resolve incidents and follow Vodacom change‑management policies.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years of experience in IT infrastructure administration.
• At least 2 years of hands‑on experience managing database systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and leadership abilities.
