Kabobo-Luama Landscape Director

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is seeking a senior professional to lead the Kabobo‑Luama Landscape (KLL) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based at the Kabobo Wildlife Reserve headquarters in Kalemie, the Landscape Director will develop, implement and coordinate the landscape strategy that covers both Kabobo and Luama Wildlife Reserves, working closely with local authorities, donor partners and WCS senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the KLL senior management team in managing projects and grants, including assistance with proposal development, timely reporting and compliance with donor regulations.
• Coordinate with the WCS DRC Senior Management Team and the Central Africa Regional Technical team to revise and update the strategic approach for the reserves.
• Provide technical support to field teams in the development of annual work plans.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of staff, ensuring effective collaboration and performance.
• Represent WCS with donor partners and provide strategic leadership for investments in the Kabobo‑Luama landscape.
• Facilitate close coordination and cooperation with local authorities and community stakeholders.
• Occasionally travel to WCS‑DRC hub offices in Goma, Bukavu and Kinshasa, and conduct local monitoring missions as required.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competency in conservation and site‑based management.
• Strong background in community‑based conservation approaches.
• Interest in the nexus between wildlife, habitats, climate change and local communities.
• Experience managing a team of staff and coordinating with local authorities.
• Ability to provide strategic leadership and engage effectively with donor partners.
