Senior Project Associate

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Senior Project Associate to support the Regional Responses to Climate Displacements in Sub‑Saharan Africa (RE2CLID) project. The role focuses on strengthening resilience and self‑reliance of displacement‑affected communities in the Lake Tanganyika Basin (Burundi, DRC, Tanzania) through climate‑smart and gender‑responsive interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of area‑based approaches that aim to avert displacement, minimise impacts and resolve existing displacement situations.
• Coordinate with governmental, intergovernmental and non‑governmental partners to ensure alignment with IOM’s migration, environment and climate change strategy.
• Support the development and monitoring of gender‑responsive disaster forecasts and management systems.
• Contribute to the preparation of project reports, data collection tools and documentation of best practices.
• Facilitate capacity‑building activities for local stakeholders on climate‑adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with proven experience in migration, environment, climate change or disaster risk reduction.
• Familiarity with Sub‑Saharan African contexts, especially the Lake Tanganyika region.
• Strong understanding of gender‑responsive approaches in humanitarian settings.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills with diverse partners.
