Health & Safety System Improvement Superintendent

About the role

Mutanda Mining is seeking a Health & Safety System Improvement Superintendent to lead a dedicated team in enhancing safety performance across its mining operations. Reporting to the Manager – Health & Safety, you will use data‑driven insights to anticipate risks, implement preventive measures, and support line management in embedding robust health and safety processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and continuously improve health and safety systems to ensure regulatory compliance and risk reduction.
• Develop and maintain data tracking tools, dashboards and reports that provide actionable safety insights.
• Monitor leading safety indicators, analyse trends and advise management on proactive actions.
• Oversee incident investigation processes, ensuring thorough root‑cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
• Drive safety improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives, leveraging modern technologies.
• Coach and develop the safety team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Safety Management or a related field.
• Minimum eight years of health and safety experience in mining or processing environments.
• At least three years in a superintendent or equivalent leadership role on large‑scale projects.
• Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• NEBOSH or equivalent safety certification.
• Incident investigation certifications such as ICAM, Essential Factors or Blueline.
• Knowledge of ISO/SANS 45001 and ISO 31000 safety management systems.
• Strong analytical and data‑analysis capabilities.
• Proven leadership, coaching and team development experience.
