Senior Electrical Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of medium‑voltage (MV) and low‑voltage (LV) power, lighting, and building services solutions for consulting projects across Africa. The role involves providing expert engineering consultancy, ensuring technical excellence, and supporting client relationships from concept through handover.

Key responsibilities

• Develop accurate MV/LV power and lighting designs, single‑line diagrams, reticulation layouts, generator and UPS specifications, and fire detection/evacuation systems.
• Design and integrate data, CCTV, access‑control, intruder alarm, and building management systems.
• Prepare design calculations, budgets, tender specifications and manage project financial control.
• Monitor construction activities, perform diligent construction monitoring and ensure compliance with design intent.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and lead the coordination of design deliverables.
• Manage client interactions, attend networking events, and contribute to business development and repeat work.
• Oversee internal project finances, including hourly forecasting, work‑in‑progress tracking and invoicing.

Required profile

• BSc Eng. or BTech in Electrical Engineering (minimum).
• Professional registration with ECSA (advantageous) and SAQCC registration (highly advantageous).
• At least 7 years of consulting engineering experience in building services or industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of South African standards SANS10142‑1&2, SANS10400 and SANS204.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
