WASH/IPC Specialist (Temporary, 6 months) – DR Congo

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a WASH/IPC Specialist on a six‑month temporary appointment to support the emergency response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The specialist will work under the WASH/IPC Manager to plan, implement, coordinate and monitor WASH and infection‑prevention‑and‑control interventions in affected health zones.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and prioritize WASH/IPC intervention plans based on epidemiological trends and risk assessments.
• Coordinate with national, provincial and health‑zone authorities to ensure alignment with UNICEF guidance and national priorities.
• Monitor implementation of WASH infrastructure upgrades and IPC measures, producing regular progress reports.
• Provide technical advice and capacity‑building support to local partners and health facilities.
• Maintain robust monitoring systems and data collection tools for rapid decision‑making.

Required profile

• University degree in public health, environmental health, engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in WASH and IPC within humanitarian or emergency contexts.
• Familiarity with outbreak response, preferably Ebola or similar viral hemorrhagic diseases.
• Ability to work in insecure, conflict‑affected environments.
• Fluency in English.
