Biomedical Engineer – Oxygen Project

About the role

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is seeking a Biomedical Engineer to provide technical guidance for its Oxygen pilot project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role focuses on installing, maintaining, and scaling oxygen production and delivery systems across selected health facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Assess technical assistance needs for PSA plants and health‑facility technicians, ensuring preventive maintenance and repair of biomedical equipment.
• Identify and support hospitals in installing and maintaining liquid medical oxygen (LOX) equipment and related infrastructure.
• Supervise PSA installation, maintenance, and the procurement and installation of LOX systems, accessories, and bedside oxygen piping.
• Facilitate scaling‑up discussions, including depot establishment, increased LOX import volumes, and expanded distribution networks.
• Develop a national plan to integrate LOX into the health‑system product mix.
• Provide regular progress reports to the Program Manager and Technical Advisor.
• Support clinical training and mentoring on oxygen therapy, tracking capacity gaps and ensuring integration with other CHAI programs.
• Create training tools and SOPs for PSA and LOX systems in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and key stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
• Background in biomedical engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience with medical oxygen technologies, PSA plants, and LOX systems.
• Proven ability to supervise installations, procurement processes, and technical training.
