Chief of Communication – Fixed Term (24 months)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior communication professional to lead its communication strategy in the Democratic Republic of Congo for a 24‑month fixed‑term appointment. Based in Kinshasa, the Chief of Communication will shape messaging, advocacy, and public outreach to support UNICEF’s mission for children in a challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with UNICEF’s global and country priorities.
• Lead media relations, public affairs, and digital communication initiatives to raise awareness of children’s rights and humanitarian needs.
• Oversee the production of high‑quality communication materials, including reports, press releases, and multimedia content.
• Coordinate with government, NGOs, donors, and partners to ensure consistent messaging and collaborative advocacy.
• Manage a communication team, providing mentorship, performance oversight, and capacity‑building.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in communication, journalism, public relations or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communication, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven track record of leading communication teams in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Strong understanding of the DRC context, including media landscape and child protection issues.
