Chief of Party – Integrated Governance & Conservation Project

About the role

The Jane Goodall Institute is seeking a senior‑level Chief of Party (COP) to lead an integrated multi‑sectoral governance, conservation and development public‑private partnership in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The COP will provide overall leadership and technical direction for a multi‑million‑dollar project aimed at improving local and institutional governance while enhancing biodiversity conservation and human wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full lifecycle of the project, ensuring compliance with donor rules, JGI policies, and government regulations.
• Coordinate with private‑sector partners, local authorities, beneficiaries, high‑level government officials, and USAID representatives.
• Supervise key project staff and manage performance against project milestones and budgets.
• Ensure integration of governance, conservation, and development activities across sectors.
• Report progress, financials, and outcomes to donors and senior leadership.

Required profile

• Proven track record of successfully implementing and managing cooperative agreements or grants in development, landscape, or conservation projects, especially in remote locations.
• Extensive experience leading large, multi‑disciplinary teams and multi‑million‑dollar budgets.
• Strong understanding of public‑private partnership models and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work effectively with high‑level government and USAID officials.

Required skills

• Project management of large‑scale development or conservation initiatives.
• Experience with grant and cooperative agreement administration.
• Knowledge of governance and biodiversity conservation frameworks.
