Child Protection Specialist (MHPSS) – 6‑month contract in DRC

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Child Protection Specialist with expertise in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to join the Ebola response team in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The position is a six‑month temporary appointment based in Bunia, with responsibilities extending to Beni and Butembo.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement, coordinate and monitor child protection interventions within the Ebola response.
• Provide psychosocial support to affected children, families, healthcare workers and communities.
• Manage cases and referrals, including interim care, reunification and access to specialized services.
• Strengthen the social service workforce through capacity‑building of social workers, para‑social staff and psychologists.
• Facilitate inter‑sectoral coordination and integration of child protection activities.
• Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting of programme outcomes.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in child protection and MHPSS in humanitarian settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work in insecure, resource‑limited environments.
• Strong coordination, adaptability and cultural sensitivity.
• Experience with case management, referral systems and capacity‑building initiatives.
