Corrections Officer – UN Mission in DRC

About the role

The Corrections Officer will support the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) to strengthen the national corrections system. Based in Kinshasa, the role reports to the Senior Corrections Officer and works closely with UN country team members and national authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing mission strategies to improve prison management, rehabilitation facilities, and links with police and courts.
• Provide advice, coaching and mentoring to national counterparts in line with international standards.
• Facilitate coordinated UN support to the prison sector, integrating programmes from various mission components.
• Support justice sector reforms, especially the corrections component of the priority action plan and joint justice support programmes.
• Help design, deliver and evaluate training programmes for prison staff.
• Advise on mobilising international assistance and building partnerships with donors and development partners.
• Maintain effective relations with government officials, civil‑society groups, NGOs and diplomatic missions.
• Provide guidance on good prison practices, security issues, high‑risk inmate management, and deradicalisation initiatives.
