Country Director

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking an experienced humanitarian leader to serve as Country Director for its Democratic Republic of Congo operation. You will provide strategic direction, ensure programme quality, and maintain strong accountability to affected populations in a highly complex environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary and inclusive leadership across all DRC programmes.
• Develop and implement the country strategy in line with DRC’s global priorities.
• Lead rapid response and adaptation of programmes during emergencies such as disease outbreaks, conflict, and natural disasters.
• Mobilise teams and resources quickly, ensuring coordinated and impactful interventions.
• Engage with humanitarian coordination mechanisms, donors, and government authorities.
• Maintain operational effectiveness, security, and access in challenging contexts.

Required profile

• Proven track record managing large‑scale, complex humanitarian operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead through sudden shocks and evolving operational contexts.
• Strong decision‑making skills and experience navigating insecurity and access challenges.
• Experience in protection, WASH, IPC, RCCE, cash assistance, and psychosocial support programmes is advantageous.
