Country Director

About the role

Tearfund is seeking a Country Director to lead its programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo from its Goma office. The role combines strategic leadership, partnership development, and operational oversight to advance Tearfund’s mission of serving the poorest communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary strategic leadership to the country team, fostering a supportive and collaborative management culture.
• Recruit, lead and develop high‑performing, diverse staff, creating an environment that maximises potential.
• Analyse the local and global funding landscape and secure strategic funding to sustain and expand programme delivery.
• Ensure transparent and compliant management of Tearfund’s financial resources, including reporting and adherence to restricted funding requirements.
• Represent Tearfund at senior levels with NGOs, UN agencies, government bodies, churches, donors and strategic networks.
• Advocate for Integral Mission, strengthen church partnerships and influence policy and societal change in line with Tearfund’s vision.
• Oversee security, health and safety for all staff operating in the country.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent qualification in development, management or a related field.
• Extensive senior‑level experience in strategic leadership, people management and financial accountability, preferably as a country programme leader in an international development organisation.
• Fluent written and spoken English and French.
