Energy Manager – Upemba Landscape

About the role

Forgotten Parks is seeking an Energy Manager to lead the development and implementation of the energy strategy for the Upemba Landscape in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role combines strategic planning with project coordination to support renewable energy solutions for Upemba National Park, surrounding communities and local economic activities.

Key responsibilities

• Define and prioritize renewable energy opportunities (solar, hydropower, battery storage, hybrid systems) for the landscape.
• Develop integrated feasibility studies addressing technical, economic, financial, institutional and conservation criteria.
• Structure and mobilize project financing and partnerships with donors, NGOs, private sector and government.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external experts to design and implement pilot projects.
• Monitor and report on project progress, performance indicators and alignment with conservation objectives.
• Provide strategic advice to senior management on energy policy and sustainability integration.

Required profile

• Proven experience in renewable energy project development and management.
• Strong understanding of integrated energy solutions such as solar, hydropower, storage and hybrid systems.
• Experience working in conservation or development contexts in low‑resource settings.
• Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including communities, authorities and donors.
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
