Environmental Officer - Investigations and Mitigation

About the role

The Environmental Officer – Investigations and Mitigation will lead environmental investigations across Mutanda Mining’s mining and processing sites. Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the role focuses on identifying, documenting and mitigating incidents such as illegal waste disposal, water or air pollution, soil contamination and hazardous waste issues.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular environmental inspections across mining and processing areas.
• Investigate environmental incidents, determine root causes and collect evidence.
• Prepare detailed investigation reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate investigations with operational departments and ensure follow‑up actions are implemented.
• Monitor incident trends and assess environmental risks associated with mining activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (Bac+3) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in mining, industrial or similar environments.
• Proven experience in environmental inspections, incident investigations and compliance monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and management systems.
• Fluency in French, English and Swahili.
