Facilities Management Assistant (GL-4)

About the role

The Facilities Management Assistant supports the Engineering Section of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in Goma. Reporting to the Head of Operations Unit, the incumbent assists with construction, installation, and maintenance of mission facilities, ensuring safety and compliance with local building codes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform construction tasks for new buildings, prefabricated container installations, and repairs of structural metal and woodwork.
• Operate heavy and light engineering equipment, maintain runway and helipad surfaces, and conduct earth‑moving work such as digging septic pits.
• Carry out scheduled and emergency maintenance on all installations and monitor material, tool, and equipment inventories.
• Conduct surveys, measure and mark work areas, and ensure materials meet required specifications.
• Coordinate with the Project Unit supervisor, masons, and other technicians for expert advice and project execution.
• Provide administrative assistance to the Head of Unit regarding ongoing field projects.
• Report progress, identify shortcomings, and perform any other duties assigned by the Unit supervisor.
