Group General Manager – Engineering & Maintenance (Mining)

About the role

The company, a leading hydrometallurgical copper and cobalt producer in the Democratic Republic of Congo, seeks a Group‑level General Manager to lead engineering, maintenance, capital projects and plant expansion across two processing assets. Reporting to the Senior GM, you will provide strategic and operational direction to ensure safe, reliable and cost‑effective operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the overall maintenance, engineering and projects strategy.
• Lead feasibility studies, detailed design, engineering and execution of greenfield, brownfield and debottlenecking projects.
• Direct EPC/EPCM contractors, consultants and equipment suppliers through erection, installation, testing, commissioning and hand‑over.
• Drive improvements in plant reliability, availability and maintainability.
• Oversee preventive, predictive and condition‑based maintenance programmes.
• Manage power generation, electrical distribution, substations and energy‑management systems.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental and safety regulations.
• Lead technical risk assessments, HAZOP studies and process‑safety initiatives.
• Develop local engineering capability and mentor Congolese professionals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
• 20–25 years progressive experience in mining and metallurgical process operations.
• Extensive experience in hydrometallurgical copper and cobalt processing plants.
• Proven track record in design, engineering, erection and commissioning of large copper process facilities.
• Strong background in maintenance and reliability management (RCM, MTBF/MTTR, asset integrity).
• Demonstrated leadership of major capital projects and plant expansions.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and EPC/EPCM contracts.
• Preferable experience in the DRC or broader African mining sector.
