Head of Project Unit (Roster)

About the role

The Head of Project Unit (HPU) will lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and closure of UNMAS‑related projects across multiple duty stations. Reporting to the PSC Head of Programme and working under the PSC Director, the HPU ensures that mine‑action programmes are delivered as an integrated team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine programme strategies, workplans and budgets in collaboration with the Chief of Mine Action Programme (CMAP).
• Prepare project proposals, resource mobilisation strategies and donor submissions.
• Ensure compliance with UNOPS policies, the Humanitarian Programme Cycle and UNMAS funding mechanisms.
• Oversee contract solicitation, third‑party agreements and human‑resource planning.
• Collect and analyse sex‑, age‑ and disability‑disaggregated data to inform decision‑making.
• Coordinate with UNMAS Geneva office and other stakeholders to align implementation timelines and resources.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in managing complex humanitarian or development projects, preferably in mine‑action or peace‑and‑security contexts.
• Strong understanding of UNOPS and UNMAS operational frameworks and RACI matrices.
• Proven ability to work with multiple partners across diverse geographic locations.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
