Mechanical Engineer (HVAC)

About the role

WSP is expanding its mechanical services team and seeks a Mechanical Engineer with a focus on HVAC. The role involves delivering design, documentation and site supervision for building services projects across various sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage HVAC design projects from inception to closeout, including heat load and ventilation calculations.
• Prepare tender documentation, Bills of Quantities and oversee contractor performance for mechanical works.
• Apply BIM principles using tools such as Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud and Autodesk Forma to improve project delivery.
• Ensure quality assurance, site supervision and troubleshooting of existing installations.

Required profile

• B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng. or B.Tech. Eng. in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years post‑graduation experience in building services consulting, preferably in data centres, clean rooms, advanced manufacturing or healthcare facilities.
• Eligibility or progress toward ECSA professional registration (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in HVAC design software (HAP, Loadest, IES) and manual psychrometric analysis.
• Experience with BIM and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Forma, Autodesk Construction Cloud).
• Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) and international standards such as ASHRAE and British Standards.
• Strong digital literacy, ability to manage data quality and apply BIM workflows.
