Medical Officer – UN Volunteer Specialist (MONUSCO)

About the role

The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) is looking for an International UN Volunteer Specialist to serve as a Medical Officer in Goma. The role supports the health and wellbeing of UN personnel operating in a complex humanitarian and security environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide outpatient consultations, emergency care, medical examinations, vaccinations and occupational health services.
• Respond to medical and trauma emergencies, including mass‑casualty incidents.
• Deliver CPR and First Aid training to mission personnel.
• Manage and supervise a Level 1 medical facility, including on‑call and shift duties.
• Coordinate medical care with UN military medical units and local health facilities.
• Process medical clearances, referrals, sick‑leave matters and medical evacuations according to UN procedures.
• Ensure availability of medical supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
• Support health awareness, HIV/AIDS prevention and capacity‑building activities for mission staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medicine.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Valid medical licence in home country and/or country of residence.
• Fluent English and basic French.
• Strong communication, teamwork, planning, adaptability and intercultural skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support certification.
