MHPSS Assistant

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Assistant to join a mobile response team addressing the 2026 Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Working under the Integrated Protection Lead, the Assistant will deliver direct psychosocial services to affected communities and health facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to Ebola‑affected individuals, survivors, families and frontline workers.
• Facilitate individual and group psychosocial support sessions in community settings and health facilities.
• Support the adaptation and implementation of MHPSS curricula for the emergency response.
• Train and supervise community‑level PSS focal points and Psychosocial Assistants (PSA).
• Contribute to feasibility assessments and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) that ensure safe MHPSS delivery within the Ebola context.
• Coordinate closely with social workers, health staff, RCCE colleagues and other members of the IRC mobile team.

Required profile

• Works under the supervision of the Integrated Protection Lead as part of an IRC mobile team.
• Demonstrated experience providing mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian or emergency settings.
• Ability to operate safely in high‑risk environments and adhere to IPC guidelines.

Required skills

• Psychological First Aid (PFA) delivery.
• Facilitation of individual and group psychosocial support sessions.
• Training and supervision of community‑level psychosocial staff.
• Development of SOPs and feasibility assessments for MHPSS activities.
