Programme Associate – Humanitarian Access (SC6)

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Programme Associate to support humanitarian access operations in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The position will be based in Bukavu, Beni and Bunia and will contribute to the design and implementation of access strategies that enable food assistance to reach vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update humanitarian access strategies in coordination with partners, UN agencies and local authorities.
• Conduct security and access risk assessments and provide recommendations to field teams.
• Support the collection, analysis and dissemination of access‑related data and reports.
• Facilitate liaison with armed escorts, community leaders and other stakeholders to negotiate safe movement.
• Assist in preparing briefing notes, situation reports and operational plans related to access challenges.
• Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of access interventions and share lessons learned.

Required profile

• University degree in International Relations, Humanitarian Affairs, Development Studies or a related field.
• Minimum of 2‑4 years of professional experience in humanitarian access, security coordination or related areas.
• Demonstrated ability to work in conflict‑affected environments and to engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills, with fluency in English; knowledge of French is an asset.

Required skills

• Experience with access‑strategy development and risk assessment tools.
• Familiarity with UN humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
