Project Engineer – Water Infrastructure (LIFT Project)

About the role

The Project Engineer will support the LIFT project’s goal of improving cost‑recoverable water supply services in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in the Mercy Corps office in Goma or Bukavu, the role involves planning, designing, and overseeing upgrades to piped water systems over a four‑year fixed‑term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive water system assessments, including infrastructure, operations & maintenance, and energy efficiency.
• Develop infrastructure improvement plans and detailed feasibility studies with conceptual designs.
• Prepare environmental impact assessments, operation and maintenance manuals, and realistic cost estimates.
• Create construction schedules and support tender preparation (technical specifications, bills of quantities, final tender packages).
• Analyze cost‑recovery potential and key performance indicators such as non‑revenue water.
• Supervise infrastructure improvement works and act as the primary liaison with external engineering and construction firms.

Required profile

• Professional experience in piped water infrastructure planning and design.
• Ability to lead technical assessments and develop improvement plans.
• Experience preparing environmental and technical documentation for water projects.
