SAFER Consortium Director

About the role

The SAFER Consortium Director leads a multi‑partner humanitarian programme in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Hosted by Mercy Corps, the Director reports to a Steering Committee composed of the five partner country directors and ensures coordinated delivery of cash‑based and WASH assistance to vulnerable households.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic leadership for the SAFER Consortium, representing the interests of all five partner agencies.
• Oversee programme implementation, budget management (US$30M+ annual), and delivery of multi‑sectoral emergency assistance.
• Supervise the Deputy Director and coordinate operational activities across partners, including programme harmonisation and quality improvement.
• Maintain relationships with donors (BHA, FCDO, ECHO) and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
• Guide the development of internal working groups and ensure effective communication among consortium members.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing large‑scale, multi‑partner humanitarian programmes in conflict‑affected settings.
• Proven leadership and team‑management skills, with the ability to represent a consortium at senior donor and government levels.
• Strong understanding of cash‑based assistance (CVA) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions.
• Experience working in the DRC or similar contexts is highly desirable.
