Security Officer – Temporary (6 months) – Butembo, DRC

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Security Officer on a six‑month temporary appointment to support its emergency response in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role is based in Butembo and reports to the Hub Coordinator in Beni and the Security Adviser in Kinshasa.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical, operational and administrative assistance for security planning and management.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation measures to protect staff, their eligible family members and UNICEF assets.
• Safeguard UNICEF premises, equipment and resources at the duty station.
• Coordinate closely with the Hub Coordinator, Security Adviser and other partners to ensure a coherent security response.
• Adapt security measures to the evolving Ebola outbreak context, including community and health‑care settings.

Required profile

• University degree in Security Risk Management, International Relations, Conflict Analysis, Intelligence Analysis, Diplomatic Studies, Counter‑Terrorism or a related field.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in global security risk management or security analysis.
• Ability to work in a complex, insecure environment and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
