Senior Legal Counsel – Litigation

About the role

Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel specialized in litigation to support its mining operations in Kolwezi, DRC. Reporting to the Litigation Manager, you will help minimise litigation risk by providing expert legal advice and managing dispute processes.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and monitor all ongoing and potential litigation, reviewing external counsel opinions and recommending actions.
• Research DRC legislation, including OHADA and tax law, to assess claim validity and develop strategies.
• Identify, propose and supervise internal corrective measures, ensuring implementation with management approval.
• Coordinate with internal departments to gather required information within set timelines.
• Maintain accurate litigation documentation and an up‑to‑date register of disputes.
• Anticipate potential conflicts and prepare proactive management plans.
• Act as liaison with external lawyers during negotiations and represent KCC in court when needed.
• Provide weekly bilingual (French/English) reports on case progress to senior management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law (minimum five years of study).
• At least six years of experience as a lawyer or in‑house counsel handling private litigation in the DRC.
• Experience in the mining sector is a strong asset.
• Fluency in French, English and Swahili.
