Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to strengthen its Mechanical offering across Africa. The role focuses primarily on HVAC design and delivery within building services consulting projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex mechanical projects from inception to closeout, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.
• Perform HVAC design, including heat load and ventilation calculations, adhering to local (SANS) and international standards (ASHRAE, British Standards).
• Utilise digital tools such as HAP, Loadest, IES, AutoCAD, Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud for modelling, BIM coordination and data management.
• Manage project scope, cost control, tender documentation, BOQs and contractor oversight.
• Provide site supervision, QA/QC, and troubleshoot existing installations.

Required profile

• B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng. or B.Tech. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years post‑graduation experience in building services and 2 years post‑registration experience.
• Proven experience in HVAC design for sectors such as data centres, clean rooms, advanced manufacturing or healthcare facilities.
• Professional registration (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) is mandatory.
• Strong leadership, communication and client relationship skills.

Required skills

• HVAC design software: HAP, Loadest, IES.
• BIM tools: AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Autodesk Forma.
• Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) and international standards (ASHRAE, BS).
• Thermodynamic and pipe‑network design principles.
• Digital literacy and ability to apply BIM principles and data‑driven project delivery.
