WASH in Emergencies Specialist – Emergency Roster

About the role

The Emergency WASH Specialist will be part of Plan International’s Emergency Roster, ready to deploy on short notice to support country offices or regional teams. The role provides technical leadership to establish, strengthen, or recover safe, inclusive and gender‑responsive water, sanitation and hygiene services during emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or support rapid WASH needs assessments and analysis.
• Design emergency response plans and oversee implementation.
• Coordinate with Health, Protection, Education, Shelter, Supply Chain, Finance, MERL, Safeguarding and Accountability teams.
• Develop proposals, ensure quality assurance and monitor programme performance.
• Provide capacity‑strengthening and technical training to local partners.
• Represent Plan International in WASH Cluster meetings, technical working groups and inter‑agency forums.
• Plan and support transition activities towards longer‑term recovery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in emergency WASH programming.
• Ability to deploy within 72 hours of confirmation.
• Strong understanding of gender‑responsive and protection‑focused WASH interventions.
• Experience working in multi‑sector humanitarian contexts.

Required skills

• Rapid WASH assessment methodology.
• WASH programme design and implementation oversight.
• Monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance of WASH interventions.
• Capacity‑building and technical training delivery.
