WASH Officer (TA, 6 months) – UNICEF DR Congo

About the role

UNICEF is recruiting a WASH Officer on a six‑month temporary assignment to support the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The officer will work closely with health authorities, the Ministry of Health and partner organisations to ensure safe water, sanitation and infection prevention and control (IPC) services for vulnerable communities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day UNICEF WASH/IPC activities in affected provinces, ensuring alignment with national response plans.
• Represent UNICEF in provincial and local coordination mechanisms such as the IPC Commission, WASH/IPC sub‑pillar and Ebola Task Force.
• Lead rapid WASH/IPC needs assessments and gap analyses in health facilities, schools, IDP sites and other priority locations.
• Contribute to operational planning, prioritising interventions, estimating resource needs and defining implementation modalities.
• Monitor and support NGO partners, ensuring quality, timeliness and compliance of interventions.
• Prepare and follow up partnership documents, budgets, work plans, indicators and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) or infection prevention and control in humanitarian or health emergencies.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi‑stakeholder environments and coordinate with government and NGOs.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with experience in needs assessments and operational planning.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
