Agriculture & Market Systems Development Specialist – DRC

About the role

Mercy Corps is seeking a specialist to lead the Agriculture and Market Systems Development component of the Food Security Project (FSP) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role will support the transition of smallholder farmer producer organisations from production to market integration, focusing on beans, maize, cassava and onion value chains.

Key responsibilities

• Provide capacity‑building support to 72 smallholder farmer producer organisations on administrative and financial management.
• Facilitate the use of extension services, quality inputs and best production and storage techniques.
• Strengthen links between producer organisations and local markets to improve marketing of beans, maize, cassava and onion.
• Coordinate with Mercy Corps field teams in Kabare and Kalehe territories and with consortium partners.
• Monitor progress toward reaching over 200,000 participants, with an emphasis on women and youth.

Required profile

• Experience in agricultural development and market integration in low‑resource settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work with smallholder farmer groups and producer organisations.
• Strong understanding of value‑chain dynamics for beans, maize, cassava and onion.
• Commitment to gender‑responsive and youth‑focused programming.
