Borderlands Awareness Toolkit & Design Consultant

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking an experienced Communications Consultant to develop a Borderlands Awareness Toolkit for a European Union‑funded project aimed at strengthening cross‑border cooperation between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The assignment is remote and lasts three months.

Key responsibilities

• Design a harmonised communication and awareness strategy for border communities.
• Create innovative print, digital and multimedia materials aligned with SBCC principles.
• Develop community engagement tools that promote social and behavioural change.
• Provide capacity‑building support to implementing partners on the use of the toolkit.
• Collaborate with IOM’s Communications, Protection, Border Governance, MHPSS, Social Cohesion, and M&E teams to ensure technical accuracy, cultural relevance, inclusivity, and compliance with IOM and EU standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in communications consultancy, preferably within migration or humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality print, digital and multimedia communication products.
• Familiarity with Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) methodologies.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with attention to cultural and gender sensitivities.
