Bulk Materials Handling Engineer

About the role

WSP South Africa is seeking a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in bulk materials handling. The role combines senior design engineering with project management responsibilities on both local and international projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multi‑disciplinary teams of engineers, designers and support staff across multiple simultaneous projects.
• Manage project lifecycle from feasibility studies through design development, construction implementation and close‑out.
• Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, vendors, regulatory authorities and the public.
• Conduct investigations, surveys, engineering calculations and prepare working drawings and cost estimates.
• Review overall project designs, suggest technical improvements and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Oversee bulk materials handling design across various projects and monitor construction, site visits and commissioning.
• Promote health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) standards and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in bulk materials handling.
• Proven ability to act as senior design engineer and project manager.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
• Commitment to SHEQ performance and company values.
