Community Engagement Manager

About the role

The Community Engagement Manager will lead the implementation of Medair’s community engagement activities across its health, nutrition and WASH programmes in eastern Congo. Based in Goma, the role coordinates focal points and field teams, ensuring consistent, high‑quality behaviour‑change communication and participatory approaches that improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the Community Engagement Team, supervising focal points and field staff in each base.
• Develop, test and roll out community engagement strategies as part of the leadership team.
• Represent Medair at behaviour‑change communication meetings, workgroups, and with local authorities, partners and NGOs.
• Supervise the implementation of behaviour‑change communication, accountability and participatory activities across health, nutrition and WASH sectors.
• Conduct barrier analysis, focus‑group discussions and other qualitative research to identify target behaviours.
• Oversee household mapping and the selection of lead mothers or community health workers.
• Ensure that key messages align with project log‑frames and technical guidelines.
• Collaborate with sector project managers, specialists and advisors to monitor and resolve community issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience coordinating community engagement or similar programmes in humanitarian settings.
• Familiarity with health, nutrition and WASH interventions and related log‑frames.
• Ability to work with local authorities, NGOs, community volunteers and beneficiaries.
• Strong organisational and supervisory skills for multi‑site teams.
• Fluent English; knowledge of French or local languages is an advantage.
