Conservation Pilot – Okapi Wildlife Reserve

About the role

The Conservation Pilot supports protected‑area managers in the Okapi Wildlife Reserve by conducting surveillance, monitoring, and logistical flights. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager and WCS Aviation Fleet Manager, the pilot works closely with park anti‑poaching teams and national logistical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Operate aircraft as Pilot‑in‑Command for anti‑poaching, resource‑protection, and logistical missions.
• Maintain up‑to‑date aircraft documentation in line with international and national aviation regulations.
• Log all flight details, including location, passengers, purpose, and duration.
• Oversee aircraft cleanliness, security, and routine maintenance.
• Train staff on aviation safety and operational procedures.
• Manage survey and surveillance equipment assigned to the aviation wing.
• Plan and procure aviation supplies such as avgas and oils.

Required profile

• Experience piloting fixed‑wing aircraft in remote or conservation settings.
• Strong knowledge of aviation safety standards and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to lead a small team of observers and assistants.
• Willingness to travel within the DRC, Uganda, and occasional international trips.
