Country Director – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

The Country Director is the official representative and leader of Women for Women International in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This senior position shapes the vision and strategy for the country office, overseeing all programmatic and operational activities while ensuring the organization’s impact on women’s empowerment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the country’s strategic plan, including annual budgets and work plans.
• Lead a professional team delivering a 12‑month holistic gender‑transformative graduation program and related initiatives.
• Represent WfWI to donors, government, civil society and partners, building new partnerships and local funding opportunities.
• Develop and manage a funding pipeline, securing resources to scale program impact.
• Oversee financial, administrative and logistical operations, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and WfWI standards.
• Guide monitoring, evaluation and learning processes to improve program effectiveness.
• Champion women’s empowerment and gender‑responsive development in an unstable environment.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in gender‑focused development or humanitarian programs.
• Demonstrated ability to build capacity, mentor staff and manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commitment to women’s empowerment and experience delivering gender‑transformative interventions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization to high‑level stakeholders.
• Experience securing funding and cultivating strategic partnerships.
• Ability to operate effectively in challenging and unstable contexts.
