Country Director – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

International Alert is seeking an experienced Country Director to lead and expand its peacebuilding work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in Goma, you will shape fundraising strategy, oversee program quality, and coordinate cross‑border initiatives with the Rwanda office.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the country’s strategic plan aligned with Alert’s global mission.
• Lead fundraising efforts, identify strategic donors, and maintain donor relationships.
• Supervise contracts, consultancies and research activities.
• Collaborate with the Director of Programmes to assess conflict dynamics and prioritize interventions.
• Manage a diverse team, conduct performance reviews, and ensure staff development.
• Coordinate regional initiatives for the Great Lakes area.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in operational management and strategic planning.
• Deep knowledge of the DRC conflict context and peacebuilding opportunities.
• Strong fundraising track record with experience targeting donors and partners.
• Fluent in English and French.
• Commitment to fairness, equity and collaborative teamwork.
